The following is a recent letter sent to our lake association members from the Nona Mariotti, president of the Battersea Loughborough Lake Association.

Dear Member,

I have been contacted by Gary Bell and Hugh Bennett from the Nature Conservancy of Canada. You may remember Gary's name as the guest speaker at our Association's 2009 AGM. At that time, he told us about the Conservancy's acquisition of the Freeman property in the East Basin of Loughborough Lake as part of the land purchases to protect the Frontenac Arch. The NatureConservancy is currently pursuing the purchase of four additional packages of land - three on Loughborough Lake and one in our watershed - as described in the attached material.
The acquisition of such lands by the Nature Conservancy not only advances its objectives with respect to the preservation of the Frontenac Arch but also helps to maintain undeveloped areas adjacent to Loughborough Lake - a result that is most welcome for our Association and its objectives. We endorse the ongoing efforts of the Nature Conservancy and hope you agree that they are deserving of support. If you are interested in learning more or making a donation, please read the attached pdf file. The NCC is a private, not for profit organization that will provide tax receipts for donations. Members of our Association from the United States can send their donation to The Friends of the Nature Conservancy of Canada and the NCC will assist in ensuring that you receive your U.S. tax receipt.
I would like to take this opportunity to send best wishes to you for the approaching holiday season and the new year. See you in the spring.

Nona Mariotti, President,
Battersea Loughborough Lake Association
There is often interesting information on the FOCA (Federation of Ontario Cottagers Association) website. Their recent publication is no exception. You can access the publication from here.
